Educate Others About Occupational Therapy
On January 22, Occupational
Therapy Assistant Technology (OTA) students set up a table in
the lobby of the Center for the Technologies Building and presented
a demonstration to promote occupational therapy (OT) and the
collegeÕs OTA program. The presentation was designed
to inform students and staff about OT, which many people are
uneducated about. OT helps people to regain the abilities to
do the important things in their lives despite any impairment,
disability, or handicap.
The OTA students passed out handouts
that provided information about backpack safety awareness, improving
ergonomics of office areas, time management techniques, tips
for parents, and basic facts and information about OT. They
also displayed a poster board which provided OT facts and information
about the OTA program at NEIT as well as some unique equipment
which helps individuals with disabilities. The OTA students
were also very willing to talk and answer questions.
After presenting this information
to students and staff, the OTA students concluded that few people
knew about OT. The OTA students were able to inform many about
OT and the benefits it can bring to those who need it.
