IDSA Student Club "new on campus"
"What it takes to become an Interior Designer!" The Interior Design Student Alliance members will be displaying Interior Design Technology student work in the NEIT Library on January 23-March23. Stop by the Library and check ou the displays.

Pit Crew Club Receives a Race Car
The Automotive Technology Department recently took ownership of a 1999 Monte Carlo Chevrolet Pro Stock racecar donated to the college by Michael Marfeo, owner/driver and President of Motorsport Productions in Exeter, RI.

 

The #55 Foxwoods/Dunkin Donuts sponsored rolling chassis will be used by Automotive Technology instructor and faculty adviser of the NEIT Pit Crew Club, Dan Perry, and the members of the Pit Crew Club.  They will work on the car using NASCAR rules for race cars. Members of the Pit Crew Club will take this experience with them when they work the "Pit" at Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, MA when the racing season begins this spring.

TECHAPPELLA "new on campus" Have you ever wanted to sing in an a cappella group? Can you carry a tune? That's all you need. We'll teach you the rest. Song choices to be decided by the participants and may include Doo Wop, Motown, etc. Techappella meets on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. in room CT143. Students may play between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. It is FREE! Space is limited.

3rd Annual Tech Arts - Gallery Opening
The Tech Arts Gallery Opening was held on April 17. Artwork on display in the Tech Arts Exhibit throughout the library has been submitted from students, alumni, faculty and staff.  The exhibit will be displayed throughout the spring 2007 Quarter.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Inductees
NEIT’s Beta Xi Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society inducted 69 new members at the Induction Ceremony which was held in the Student Lounge on February 15. Many family members and friends of the inductees came to support them and their achievements. Students with a GPA of 3.8 and 24 earned credits are welcome to join Phi Theta Kappa.

MAC Tools - MACSTRAVAGANZA Event
MAC Tools held a MACSTRAVAGANZA event in the Automotive Building on April 5. At the event MAC Tools conducted seminars on new equipment and electronics. There were door prizes every hour. 

Pool Tournaments
Each quarter a pool tournament is organized for all students. The pool tournament is free to enter and the tournament winner receives a gift certificate to the NEIT Bookstore. The spring 2007 pool tournament was held on April 15 & 17. Look on campus for future tournament dates.

Friday, May 4 (week 5)
3rd Annual ASEE Student Club - Earth Day Project
The American Society of Engineering Education Student Club will be participating in an Earth Day project on May 4.  The student club members, Mechanical Engineering Technology faculty and the Student Activities Coordinator, will clean up two areas in Warwick.

Tuesday, May 8 (week 6)
Blood Drive
The RI Blood Center will be conducting a Blood Drive on Tuesday, February 27.  The drive will be held in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  The Mobile Donor Coach will at the Access Road Campus between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Who is the Guitar Hero on campus? The Tech Radio Student Club is hosting a Guitar Hero Challenge on: Tuesday, May 8, Group A, 11:15 a.m., Studio A ; Tuesday, May 15, Group B, 11:15 a.m., Media Presentation Theater; Thursday, May 17, Winner of Group A & B, 11:15 a.m., Media Presentation Theater. The first 16 students to sign-up by emailing Melissa Hague, mhague@neit.edu, will be divided into two groups of eight. (The first eight students to sign-up will be Group A, the last eight students to sign-up will be Group B.) The winner of Group A and the winner of Group B will play each other for the overall Guitar Hero. If you do not want to take part in the challenge, come and watch!

Tuesday, May 22 (week 8)
Open Mic
Open Mic will be in the Student Lounge, CT Building, between 11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. If you are interested in performing at Open Mic, please sign-up on the day of the event. Some past performances have included singing, playing an instrument, poetry, and comedy.

Thursday, May 24 (week 8)
Soul Calibur Tournament
The Soul Calibur tournament will be held on Thursday, May 24 in the NEIT game room.  The tournament begins at 11:15 a.m.. If you are interested in playing please sign-up by emailing Melissa Hague, mhague@neit.edu.

The Game Developers’ Network is sponsored by Information Technology and is open to all students enrolled at New England Tech. The Game Developers’ Network is a newly recognized student club on campus.

Game Developers’ Network is for students who are interested in game development as a profession and networking with other game development students. Students will have the opportunity to utilize their skills to modify public domain gaming engines, develop small to medium-sized games and beta-test games, share feedback and helpful techniques, and acquire critical gaming skills. This club will also allow students to get actively involved in projects and gain experience that will help them to build a better resume and add to their portfolios. The club will meet in room CT209 on the following dates and times: Weeks 3, 6, 8 and 9, Mondays,  10:25 - 11:15 a.m.; Week 3, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Week 6, Friday, 5:00 - 5:45 p.m., and Saturday, Week 9, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Spotlight on "THE INVESTMENT CLUB"
In each issue of Tech News a student club will be Spotlighted.

The Investment Club is sponsored by Business Management Technology (MGT) and is open to all students enrolled at New England Tech. The Investment Club is a newly recognized student club on campus. Students are welcome to join the investment club if they are interested in learning more about the following: reaching their long-term financial goals sooner, learning to trade online, discovering how to create a balanced portfolio, finding out about different securities, learning how to invest in the stock market, learning to use cool software investment tools, and seeing how trading occurs on the New York Stock Exchange. The Investment Club's faculty advisor is MGT Assistant Professor, Dan Peres.
