Dad Sparks Automotive Grad's
Career Success

It was Jaime Salinas's father who gave him the push to attend college. Jaime would have been perfectly content working at the garage at which he was employed during high school in Brentwood, NY. It seemed logical to him that the progression would be to finish his technical high school education and move to a full-time position at the garage. After strong prompting from dad, Jaime chose to attend NEIT because his brother Elmer had such a great experience in the Refrigeration/Air Conditioning and Heating Technology program.
While a student in NEIT's Automotive Technology program, Jaime still figured that he would return to his former employer in New York. He had no idea of the great opportunity that awaited him. The opportunity presented itself to Jaime toward the end of his degree program (6/00) when a BMW representative visited the college to discuss BMW's Step Training program. Jaime was selected for the

program and went to Orlando, Florida to participate in the 720-hour training program taught by master BMW technicians. Sightseeing in Florida was not an option as the training was very demanding (bumper to bumper) and studying required all of Jaime's time. At the end of the program, BMW dealers went to the school to recruit. Jaime and another student were interested in a BMW dealership in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Both were flown to Michigan and Jaime was selected for the position of Level 1 Technician.
Jaime is still amazed at how bright his future looks. "I am only 20 years old and am going to work for a great company that offers incredible benefits and an opportunity for growth. I couldn't have done it without the encouragement of the faculty at New England Tech. They were always pushing me to work hard and even offered support while I was in Orlando. I talked to my instructors Norm Messinger.
