Chess

Come take part in a game or learn how to play chess on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge.

Basketball
Open Basketball is available for all NEIT Students with their student ID at Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness (next to Chelo’s Restaurant), 2191 Post Road, Warwick, RI on the following dates: November 2, November 7, November16, November 28, December 7, and December 12. Students may play between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. It is FREE! Space is limited.

ASEE (American Society of Engineering Education) Yard Sale

The ASEE Student Chapter held a yard sale on August 20. The yard sale was a great success raising $500.00. The proceeds from the yard sale will be used to send the ASEE students to some local conventions. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the yard sale and to those who stopped by to support their fundraising efforts.

 

“Help, I Need First Aid”

"Help, I Need First Aid" was presented by Linda Underhill, instructor, Clinical Medical Assistant Technology, on September 6, in the Library. The presentation was about basic first aid. Linda provided answers to these commonly asked questions: What are the most common risks we face and accidents that can occur? and What can the average person do about them?

Constitution Day


New England Tech celebrated Constitution Day on September 19. Students of the two United States History 211 classes created a film entitled, The Birth of Our Nation. Students were assigned various roles including acting, writing, editing, filming, and website and promotional advertising. Students researched and created scripts to capture the essential debates of the founding fathers. NEIT studios were used to film the reenactment. The Birth of Our Nation, was shown several times during the week of September 19.

ASEE – Yankee Steam Up Event


Members of the ASEE Student Chapter attended the Annual Yankee Steam Up Event. The event is held every year at the New England Wireless and Steam Museum in East Greenwich, RI. Exhibitors from all over the country display hand made models of working steam engines, cars, trains and machinery. The field trip was funded by the proceeds from the club’s yard sale which was held in August.

NEIT Annual Cookouts


NEIT held its annual fall cookouts on October 6 and October18. More than 1400 students, faculty, and staff were in attendance. The SkillsUSA Dunk Tank fundraiser raised $396.00 at the Post Rd. cookout. The proceeds from the Dunk Tank will help assist SkillsUSA members with travel expenses for their annual national competition. Students also had the opportunity to gather information about other clubs on campus.

Blood Drive
The RI Blood Center held a Blood Drive on October 11 on the Post Road and Access Road campuses and collected a total of 26 pints of blood. Thank you to all donors; you have helped to save the lives of others.

SIC TV (Students In Communications Television)
On October 13, SIC TV (Students In Communications Television) hosted its premiere of Episode 4. The episodes were seen on the new plasma televisions and big screen in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge. If you want to be a part of Episode 5, contact VRP Assistant Professor, Mark Murphy, mmurphy@neit.edu for more information.

Lunatic Asylums & Feebleminded Schools of New England

On October 25, Jason Carpenter, a Quarter 5 student in Multimedia and Web Design Technology, presented photographs he had taken. The photographs were taken inside the walls of New England’s abandoned institutions.

Vincent Scirocco Jr., a 1995 Electronic Technology graduate, will be presenting a collection of poems he wrote to comfort himself during a difficult time after returning home from deployment in Iraq. Vinny was featured in the Summer 2005 issue of Tech News, and will be at NEIT’s Library on November 8 at 11:15 a.m. to share with the NEIT community his book of poems entitled, “Seasons of Reasons”.

International Fair
The International Fair is an event at which you can share information and learn about the many diverse cultures represented at NEIT. The International Fair will be held in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge at 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you are interested in displaying items and information about your culture at the International Fair or for more information, please contact Melissa Hague, Student Activities Coordinator, mhague@neit.edu.

PlayStation 2 Video Game Tournament
Do you like video games? Sign up now for the PlayStation 2 video game tournament. Games will be played on November 30 at 3:00 p.m. on the plasma screens in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge. On December 7, the championship game will be played on the big screen in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge at 5:00 p.m. Students must sign-up in advance by emailing Melissa Hague, Student Activities Coordinator, mhague@neit.edu.

Open Mic
Open Mic will be held on December 1 in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge at 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. If you are interested in performing at Open Mic, please sign-up the day of the event. Some past performances have included singing, playing an instrument, poetry, and comedy.

The RI Blood Center will be conducting a Blood Drive on December 6. The Blood Drive will be located in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Mobile Donor Coach will at the Access Road Campus between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Pool Tournament
Space is limited to the first 16 students who sign-up.
The first 16 students to sign-up by emailing Melissa Hague, mhague@neit.edu, will be divided into two groups of eight. The winner of Group A and the winner of Group B will play each other for the overall pool tournament winner. The pool tournament will be held in the CT Bldg. game room.
