Consider a Career
in Electronics
The opportunities and the demand
for people with electronics education is at an all time peak. In
the Northeast area there is a demand for technicians that, according
to employers, surpasses the supply of graduates. Frank Sisto, Chair,
Electronics Technology, attended the March meeting of the Northeast
Semiconductor Workforce Development Council (NSWDC) where he learned
that the semiconductor manufacturing industry, (which comprises
only about 10% of the total electronics industry), reports that
they will need 800 new technicians by the end of 2000, just in the
New England area. New England Tech can satisfy some of this demand,
but industry still needs more than are being graduated.
Graduating students have enjoyed the
employment market. Companies like EMC, Intel, IBM and many others
are aggressively recruiting NEIT grads. One corporation, EMC, has
taken the lead in guaranteeing that they have enough skilled people
for the future by sponsoring an associate degree program on-campus
and offering an associate degree program as well as a bachelor degree
program at their site in Franklin, MA.
If you are interested in how electronic
things work, troubleshooting, math, and computer applications, this
could be the career for you. No matter where you may be in your
career, it is never too late to improve yourself. The key is to
start and follow through.
