Members
of two technologies join forces in Saint Maarten
Christian
President, a recent graduate from the EET Technology Bachelor's
program, and a native of Saint Maarten, was hired as an electronics
technician by the Princess Juliana International Airport Corporation
in Saint Maarten. He is responsible for the installation,
maintenance and upkeep of the newly installed radar and automation
system manufactured by Raytheon Corporation.
Joe Ranone, an Associate Department Chair from the IT Department,
who for the past 10 years has worked as a consulting engineer
for Raytheon, met Chris for the first time when he recently
traveled to Saint Maarten to help train a group of air traffic
controllers in the operation of the Raytheon equipment. Joe
has an extensive background in aviation and air traffic control,
but says the project was a real challenge because the training
took place on "live air traffic," something the
Raytheon trainers had never before attempted. According to
Joe, "Thanks to Chris, the equipment worked well and
we were able to train eight controllers in a short period
of time."
He said that even though he and Chris had never met while
Chris was a student at NEIT, they had a good time discussing
the events that led them to join forces many miles away. Together
they were instrumental in increasing the level of safety and
service to hundreds of flights and thousands of visitors to
the beautiful tropical paradise of Saint Maarten.

Governor
Carcieri visits NEIT
New
England Institute of Technology's television studios recently
played host to a taping of ChamberWorks TV, hosted by Attorney

Donald L. Carcieri. Students from the video production department,
under the direction of instructor Mark Foley, produced the
April presentation.
Newly
revised Electronics Engineering Technology AS program announced
Frank
Sisto, Co-Department Chair of the associate degree program
in Electronics Engineering Technology (ASEET), formerly known
as Electronics Technology, has announced that the program
has been restructured to stress a more comprehensive flow
of material from the Associate to the Bachelor Degree program,
and now emphasizes a broad range of skills that meet the job
requirements of a variety of electronic employers.
The newly structured ASEET program was created as a result
of a study of area employment trends, recommendations from
industry advisors on present technologies and skills being
utilized in the electronic industry, and a survey of student
interest. The result is a program that along with the backbone
core electronic courses, will expedite student interest by
focusing on hands-on experience; computer circuit simulation
and analysis; optional electives in computer repair, CAD,
programming, or marine electronics; fabricating actual functional
projects; and the offering of new exciting courses to include:
Telecommunications, Fiber Optics, Surface Mount Devices (SMD),
Industrial Controls, Printed Circuit Board Design, Programmable
Logic Controllers (PLCs), Data Acquisition and Control, and
Robotics.

Question
Q - I am currently a student at New England Institute
of Technology and I was wondering if it was important
to work while in school. I was considering getting a
part-time job.
Curious
A
- It is extremely beneficial to gain some "related
work experience" while you are in your program.
A part-time job, internship or volunteer work would
give you an opportunity to network with people in your
field and a chance to learn different aspects of your
desired field. It is important to your future employer
that you have a good understanding of the type of environment
in which you will be working. Also, any experience that
you get, whether short term or long term, should be
included on your resume. See a Career Advisor in the
Career Services Office to assist you with how to display
this information. J. Mika, Career Services

you have a question regarding any of NEIT's departments
or services, please email jmika@neit.edu (Be sure to
put "quarterly question" in the subject line.)
