Once
again Boch Enterprises welcomed 27 Automotive Technology
and Collision Repair Technology students to its Norwood,
MA facilities. Students and NEIT faculty and staff were given
the grand tour of Boch''s Toyota and Honda dealerships as
well as their state of the art collision center. This year''s
Boch Open House was geared or students in their 4th, 5th
and 6th quarters who were interested in joining the Boch
team. Boch offers externship programs and extremely flexible
working schedules for students and graduates. Managers for
all the Boch dealerships were on hand to greet and interview
students for current positions.
Needless
to say, our students were very impressed with the facilities
and opportunities Boch has to offer. The managers found
that our students were very well prepared for the state
of the art high tech positions available at Boch. Plumbing
Technology Program Receives Donation
The
Plumbing Technology program recently received over $6000
worth of tools and equipment from Rothenberger Company.
Rothenberger has been a worldwide leader for over 50 years
in high quality tools for the plumbing, refrigeration and
related markets. The company supplies an extensive line
of pipe wrenches, tubing cutters, tubing benders, flaring
tools, pipe threaders, drain inspection cameras and cleaning
equipment. "Rothenberger
is proud to be a partner with NEIT, one of the premier technical
training programs in the country. We are glad to have been
able to contribute to the education of your students," stated
Chris Vernon, VP Marketing.

Surgical Technology Grads on the Cutting Edge
Recently,
Landmark Medical Center opened its new Cardiac/Thoracic
Operating Room Suite. The new department consists of 2
state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped for all types
of cardiac and thoracic surgery to include open heart surgery.
The
surgical technologists staffing these operating rooms are
graduates of NEIT's Surgical Technology program. Angelica
Brezoi graduated with the class of 2001 and has been
working at Landmark since graduation. Angelica, a native
of Romania, was a surgical technologist in her country
and came to NEIT to further her studies and obtain a degree.
Angelica stated, "Having the
associate in science degree opened many more doors for me now and will in the
future." Melissa Tessier graduated more recently in the class of 2003.
Melissa felt that her clinical experience really paved the way for her to feel
confident in taking the new position in the cardiac suite. Both graduates agreed
that their advice to current students would be to take their clinical externship
very seriously. Melissa stated, "The clinical experience helped make my
transition to a job much easier." Angelica and Melissa share a love of
surgery and an enthusiasm for their work, which every employer looks for. Christine
Kennedy, clinical site manager for the department states, "It is wonderful
when I visit a clinical site to evaluate a current student and see our grads
doing such great things." |

Several
Career Events Held
The Career Services Office recently hosted three separate
career day events for students and graduates of NEIT. The
first was the annual Career Expo 2005 held on March 3. NEIT
hosted 63 companies who were on hand to speak with students
about technical career opportunities. Both regional and national
companies were in attendance. Some of the attendees included:
CVS Pharmacy, Bank of America, Federal Aviation Administration,
BAE Systems, Central Intelligence Agency, Foxwood Resort
Casino, GTECH Corporation, MEDITECH, National Grid, New England
Gas, Sovereign Bank, WPRI/WNAC, and WLNE/ABC 6.
The second event was the annual Marine Forum held on March
8. Guest speakers from six area companies spoke with students
about exciting career opportunities in the marine industry.
The companies represented were: Foster Rigging & Yacht
Service, Hinkley Yacht Service, Hunt Boat Builders, Jamestown
Electronics, Tri-state Marine Service, and New England Boatworks.
The
Transportation Technology Career Fair was held on March
10 at the Access Road campus. Twenty companies came out
to recruit automotive and auto body students. The diverse
group of companies represented all areas of the transportation
industry. Some of the companies attending included: AAA
Southern NE, Boch Enterprises, Bridgestone Firestone, Crellin
Handling Equipment, East Marine, Fiore Pontiac, INSKIP
Automall, Monro Muffler and Brake, and Sullivan Tire.
As
always the representatives from the companies were very
impressed with the quality of candidates and the professionalism
of our students. "This is the best technical recruiting
event we know of," stated the recruiter from Electronic
Alarm Systems.
The Connection is Complete
Over
the years many students have been the recipients of learning
about state of the art technology from New England Institute
of Technology (NEIT). As it turns out, NEIT has been, and
is currently, benefiting from the knowledge of the latest
communications technology from a former student, Paul Aubin.
Paul,
a graduate of Electronics Engineering Technology, is
a Project Manager working for Synet Inc., Warwick, RI,
which has been awarded the contract to install the fiber
optic, data and voice cabling network infrastructure that
will link all the NEIT buildings together. Not only is
Paul overseeing the Post Road Campus Buildings Project,
but also the new Automotive and Access Road buildings as
well.
Paul received a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering
Technology and an associate's degree in both Electrical
Technology and Electronics Technology. Upon reflecting
about his days as a student at NEIT, Paul remembers the
dedication and support from his NEIT instructors and the
Career Services Department. He is proud of how his alma
mater has grown and kept pace with changing technology.
Paul's
career has resulted in a full gamut of experiences from
budgeting and documentation to project design and implementation.
Attention to detail and cultivating client relationships
is essential in Paul's line of work.
With
the experience and technical expertise that Paul has, it
is no wonder that Vin Scotto, Department Chair of the Electronics
Engineering Technology program, welcomes Paul as a member
of the Electronics Engineering Technology's Technical Advisory
Committee. The Technical Advisory Committee is made up
of individuals working in industry who oversee the curriculum.
Meeting twice a year they review and make suggestions as
to the content of the program thereby keeping the course
material current and pertinent. |
