Surgical Technology Graduate in the Spotlight

Regina Piszcz
On a recent visit
to Newport Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island, Surgical Technology
Chair, Lisa Reed; Administrative Medical Assistant Chair, Jo-Ann
Fielding and Clinical Site Manager, Christine Kennedy found Regina
Piszcz, CST (certified surgical technologist), hard at work. Regina
is a 1996 graduate of the Surgical Technology program. In her four
years of employment with Newport Hospital, Regina has worked her
way up the ladder. Regina started her career as a surgical technologist
in the operating room, and in June 1999 took an administrative position
as Sterile Supply Coordinator. In her expanded position, Regina
manages nine employees, purchases all surgical materials for eight
operating rooms and coordinates in-service education for new products
and equipment. Betty Weeden, Surgical Services Manager at the hospital
refers to Regina as a "shining star, who exceeds even our lofty
expectations in every way." Regina stays connected to the Surgical
Technology program by being an active member of the program's Technical
Advisory Committee. The faculty and staff of the Surgical Technology
department are proud of Regina and her outstanding accomplishments
in her field.
