TRI TOWN COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY OUT OF SCHOOL YOUTH TRAINING PROGRAM

Ten students between 16 and 21 years of age just successfully completed a short term, certificate granting technology training program here at New England Institute of Technology. The training effort was sponsored by the Workforce Solutions of Providence and Cranston using Department of Labor training funds.  Tri Town Community Action Agency of Johnston, RI was funded to deliver a job preparation program for these out of school students that included skills training, personal counseling, job readiness and finding skills.   TriTown contracted with NEIT’s Center for Industry and Technology to provide the skill’s training.

These students were enrolled in specially designed short term, certificate granting training modules that provided entry level skills in the areas of Auto Tech, Medical /Clerical, Occupational Therapy Tech Assistant and Heating Technology.  After completing the modules, the students are now seeking jobs in their specific technical area or considering furthering their education and training here at New England Tech.

A graduation exercise took place on May 17, 2007 in the Media Center and over 50 students, family, friends, faculty and administrators attended.  Vice President for Student Support Services, Cathy Kennedy spoke to the graduates, congratulating them on their accomplishment and challenging them to go further with their educational and occupational goals.
Faculty members, Anthony Castellone, Dan Perry, Bob Kennedy, Linda Underhill, Cindy Fuchs, Karen Morgenstein and Rebecca Simon passed out certificates to their respective students and wish them well in their future endeavors. The graduates were:
