Pictured L-R:  NEIT Automotive Technology Assistant Department Chair, Virgilio Tavares; Davies students Corey Sylvester and Fernando Jaramillo; Bill Bouling, RIADA; and Don Haining Davies automotive instructor.

New England Institute of Technology was the host site for the annual Ocean State Automotive Contest sponsored by the college and the Rhode Island Automotive Dealers’ Association (RIADA).

Ten Rhode Island high schools participated in the contest with each school sending a team of two students.  Receiving a first place award was the team representing William Davies Career and Technical Center in Lincoln, RI.

The students received NEIT scholarships, a set of tools from Snap-on Tools and a spot in the competition at the New York car show held at the Javitts Center in New York City.

A Piece of New England Tech is Part of Hollywood

If you see the movie “Underdog”, see if you can spot a piece of NEIT nostalgia.   The station wagon driven by Jim Belushi in the film is the car that was used by NEIT’s own Frank Quinn, Supervisor of Buildings and Maintenance.  When the Underdog producers were filming in RI they spotted the station wagon and inquired about using it as a movie prop.  The 1989 Ford Country Squire, Ltd. fit perfectly with the setting of the movie.  What once transported supplies and people around the NEIT campus has now also transported movie stars and superheroes.
