Chess

Come take part in a game or learn how to play chess in the CT Bldg. Student Lounge.  Check out the fliers on the bulletin boards for dates and times.

Pool Tournaments
Each quarter a pool tournament is organized for all students. The pool tournament is free to enter and the tournament winner receives a gift certificate to the NEIT Bookstore. The summer 2007 pool tournament was held on Aug. 7, 8, and 9. The winner of the summer 2007 tournament is  Kenny Smith an IT bachelor student.  A pool tournament is organized every quarter, look on campus for the next tournament dates.

Open Writing Group – Thursdays in the NEIT Library
Dr. Linda Salter, lrsalter@neit.edu , Assistant Professor, Humanities and Social Science Department, will lead an open writing group that discusses fiction, nonfiction, poetry, writing styles, and more. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. in the NEIT Library on the second floor.  If you have an interest in writing or learning more about writing, and would like to meet other students who have the same interest, please attend.  Have fun with writing!

Matco Tools Sports Compact Race Team

Matco Tools Sports Compact Race Team visited the Access Road Campus on August 8. The team conducted presentations, and students enjoyed the opportunity to visit with the team members. Students were able to see the Matco Tools sponsored car that runs a quarter mile in over 194 miles per hour in 7.71 seconds.  The 2007 driver of this speedster is Jason Hunt who was on site to sign autographs and speak with the students.  This is Jason's 9th season in sport compact racing and his 2nd year in the pro ranks.  He earned his first X-Box Cup and Wally in professional competition in 2006.  On August 26, 2005 Jason officially captured the NOPI Drag Racing Series Pro Outlaw Front Wheel Drive World Championship.

Guitar Hero II Challenge
Who is the Guitar Hero on campus? The Tech Radio Student Club is hosting a Guitar Hero II Challenge on Thursday, Aug. 30, Group A, 11:15 a.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 4, Group B, 11:15 a.m.; and Thursday, Sept. 6, Winner of Group A & B, 11:15 a.m.. All challenges will take place in the Media Presentation Theater. The first 16 students to sign-up by emailing Melissa Hague, mhague@neit.edu, will be divided into two groups of eight. (The first eight students to sign-up will be Group A, the last eight students to sign-up will be Group B.) The winner of Group A and the winner of Group B will play each other for the overall Guitar Hero.
If you do not want to take part in the challenge, come and watch!

3rd Annual Yard Sale
The ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education) and IDSA (Interior Design Student Alliance) Student Clubs are hosting a YARD SALE on Saturday, September 15, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., in the “Consignment Shop” parking lot (across from the CT Building). Alumni Association Kick-Off Event
All graduates of New England Institute of Technology and New England Technical Institute are invited to attend the Alumni Association kick-off event in the CT Bldg. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the Alumni Association; see graduates, faculty, and staff; and tour the campus. Refreshments will be served. The event will be held in The Center for the Technologies Building (CT Bldg), 2480 Post Rd., Warwick, RI.

SPOTLIGHT ON....in each issue of Tech News a student club will be spotlighted.

SOTA Student Occupational Thereapy Assistant Student Club:

The SOTA club has been an active club on campus since July 1997, and is sponsored by Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology.

NEIT’s SOTA club is a chapter of a national organization open to all students enrolled in Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology (OTA).  SOTA club members have an opportunity to meet new people, learn more about occupational therapy, and increase awareness about current issues in the profession.  SOTA club members plan fund-raising and social events and participate in many charitable programs throughout the year.  The SOTA club also helps send a student delegate to the Annual OTA National Conference.  The SOTA club and NEIT’s Interior Design Student Alliance Club will be working together to help an adult day program with the function and aesthetics of their environment.  

The SOTA Club meets in room CT245 (OTA Lab, 2nd Floor) on Thursdays of weeks 2, 4, and 8 at 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. For more information please contact the SOTA Club Advisor and OTA Instructor, Karen Morgenstein, kmorgenstein@neit.edu.
