Students Clubs

There are Student Clubs on campus. Get involved, meet new people, have fun, and have something to put on your resume. Check out the student website at http://students.neit.edu for more information.

Paula Cantwell, Associate Professor, Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology and soon to be Master Gardener, presented a demonstration about house and office plants on May 19. This event was held in the courtyard of the Library where participants had the opportunity to get their hands dirty by planting their own plant cuttings.

On July 26, SIC TV (Students In Communications Television) hosted its premiere of Episode 3. The episodes were seen on the Student Lounge’s new plasma televisions and big screen. If you want to be a part of Episode 4, contact VRP Assistant Professor, Mark Murphy at mmurphy@neit.edu for more information.

On July 26, while enjoying ice cream and lemonade, students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to listen to URI Professor Emeritus, Joy Emery, present information about the history of swimsuits. This event was sponsored by the Library. Watch for postings for upcoming events at the Library.

The RI Blood Center held a Blood Drive on the Post Road and Access Road Campuses and collected a total of 36 pints of blood. Thank you to all donors; you have helped to save the lives of others.

Eath Day Clean Up

ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education), sponsored by the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department, participated in this year’s Earth Day on April 22 by cleaning up at two Warwick locations, The Elizabeth Chace Buffum Center and Conimicut VillagePark

Earth Circle Participants

On May 26, Dave Curry, a creator and facilitator of the Milford Open Drum Circle, presented a demonstration on drumming circles, “Connecting Thought Rhythms”. The presentation was part of the Brown Bag Seminars series sponsored by the Humanities & Social Science Department. Look for postings for more Brown Bag Seminars this fall.

Pool Tournament
Space is limited to the first 16 students who sign-up.
The first 16 students to sign-up by emailing Melissa Hague, mhague@neit.edu, will be divided into two groups of eight. The winner of Group A and the winner of Group B will play each other for the overall pool tournament winner.

Open Mic
Open Mic will be held on August 25 in the courtyard of the CT Building, weather permitting. (If it rains, it will move to the Student Lounge.) If you are interested in performing at Open Mic, please sign-up the day of the event. Some past performances have included singing, playing an instrument, poetry, and comedy.

“Help, I Need First Aid”

"Help, I Need First Aid" will be a presentation by Linda Underhill, instructor in the Clinical Medical Assistant Technology, at 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., located in the Library on the 2nd floor. The presentation will be about basic first aid and will answer the questions: What are the most common risks we face and accidents that can occur? and What can the average person do about them?

NEIT Cookout
The annual cookout for NEIT students, faculty and staff will be on October 6, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. for the Post Road Campus, and October 12, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. for the Access Road Campus. Come and welcome one another to the Fall Quarter and meet new people!

Health Fair

The Health Fair held on May 3 had 12 different vendors located in the Student Lounge. Students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to have their skin checked for sun damage and to gather information on some very important health topics. This fall, information will be posted for the next Health Fair.

On May 9, Back Focus, sponsored by the Video & Radio Production Technology / Digital Recording Arts Technology, was showcased in the Hall of Fame Room for the NEIT community. The student projects are selected by faculty from both the Associate and Bachelor programs. These video shows represent the best student work of the past year. If you missed this event, you may check out the videos on the student website at http://students.neit.edu.

On April 14, a Photoshop Tips & Tricks workshop was presented by Webster Terhune, Multimedia Specialist for the MIS department. The workshop covered information on optimizing images for print. Watch for postings about upcoming Photoshop workshops.
