The annual Ocean State Automotive Technology
Competition was held on Friday, February 9, at the Access Road Campus.
The competition is hosted by NEIT, in conjunction with the Rhode Island
Automobile Dealers Association (RIADA).
Eight teams, composed of two high school
seniors each, from area high schools participated in the competition.
Each team spent twelve minutes at each of ten workstations, including
the Seekonk Speedway pace truck and a natural gas vehicle. New England
Tech faculty members Michael Isabella, Herb Gowdy, and Dan Perry,
with the help of twenty NEIT Automotive Technology students developed
the workstations for the competition.
At an award ceremony following the
competition, Jack Perkins, Executive Director of RIADA, spoke to students
about the need for qualified automotive technicians. He presented
students with a plaque in honor of their participation in the competition.
Members of the winning teams were awarded
New England Tech scholarships. Third place went to Andrew Stankiewicz
and Tom Brilhante of Newport Area Career and Technical Center. Jesse
Budnik and Jason Marrapese from Wm. M. Davies Career and Technical
Center in Lincoln, RI took second place.
First place winners, Joseph Pelletier
and Walter Buck, of Chariho Career and Technical Center, will represent
Rhode Island at the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association
National Competition in April, held at the Jacob Javitz Center in
New York City in conjunction with the New York International Car Show.
Congratulations to all of the students
who participated in the competition, and best of luck to Joseph and
Walter in New York. |
