New Assistant Provost Brings a Wealth of Experience to NEIT

Assistant Provost Wendy Buckler
New England Tech's new Assistant Provost, Wendy Buckler,
has an air of quiet confidence and calmness. She has a Bachelor
of Science degree from Boston University's prestigious School
of Public Communications and is a Magna cum Laude graduate of
Roger Williams University's School of Law. Wendy is a welcome
addition to the New England Tech community.
Wendy is the newest member of the team of dedicated
professionals in the college's Office of Teaching and Learning.
As Assistant Provost, Wendy is working on faculty and policy issues,
the college's re-accreditation with The New England Association
of Schools and Colleges and ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering
and Technology) as well as OTL's administration of the Registrar's
Office. Needless to say this is a full plate for any professional,
but Wendy's experience in a large law firm suits her perfectly
for her new responsibilities at New England Tech.
"My experience with the law taught me to
think logically and to be outcome-oriented," states Wendy.
"Assisting the students at New England Tech to achieve their
goals and to be sensitive to their needs is what the Office of
Teaching and Learning is here for and I want to be integral in
supporting that mission." Helping individuals through difficult
situations is also part of Wendy's professional experience in
public relations. As a public relations consultant for Arnold
Zenker Associates of Boston, Wendy trained individuals to handle
the high-pressure of television and media interviews and taught
the interviewee what the journalist was looking for.
Wendy also knows the pressure that students face
when exam time rolls around. She has taken and passed the bar
examination in not one, but three states, for both the state and
federal courts. She also clerked on the Rhode Island Supreme Court
for Associate Justice Lederberg and for three years was a civil
litigator for the firm of Adler, Pollock and Sheehan. She enjoyed
the practice of law, but finds the atmosphere of the college environment
more to her liking.
Wendy resides in Providence with her husband
Steve and their two children.

Graduate is Inspired By Titan
William Worthy, a 1998 graduate of Video and Radio Production
Technology (VRP) and a "Best of Tech Award" winner, stops
by the NEIT Career Services Office once in a while just to say hello.
He is always well-dressed and on his way to a meeting, but quick
to share a story about what is going on in his career. One time
he was leaving to pack for a trip to Bermuda which he had won for
having achieved outstanding sales in his position as a sales executive
at a local radio station. Recently, it was to drop off a copy of
"Titan Magazine" a publication for which he is the director
of local and national sales as well as one of the three owners.
Titan Magazine can be found between New Bedford, MA to Narragansett,
RI, and covers articles about local culture including food, fashion,
music, clubs, movies, as well as education and business. Its current
circulation is somewhere around 20,000, with Will's goal of expanding
circulation so "Titan" becomes one of the most-read magazines
in southern New England.
While at NEIT, Will had a conversation with one
of his instructors, Rick Mitchell, whom Will considers a mentor,
about where Will would go in his career. One of Rick's statements
stayed with Will, "With your personality, the fastest way to
the BMW is sales." Although Will's resume begins with a year's
stint at Channel 10 as an operations tech, the remainder of it is
sales related. Employment includes work as a sales executive at
Rhode Island's leading radio stations as well as "The Providence
Phoenix" where he created a section which is still part of
the publication today, called "The Auto Guide".
Will attributes his success in sales in the media
industry to his ability to work with concepts and ideas in a way
that satisfies the customers' needs through strong marketing campaigns
and promotions. He is also quick to point out that his education
at NEIT provided him with other tools that have helped him succeed,
including an understanding of business and computer graphics as
well as professionalism and "how to use the creative side of
the brain."
With Will's hard work and vision, "Titan"
will become a valued reference for people who want to keep their
finger on the pulse of what is happening in the club, movie and
fashion scene. He recently hired 5 sales reps and is in discussions
to bring NEIT interns on board. His friends at NEIT look forward
to the growth of both "Titan" and Will's career.
