The
Center for Technology and Industry and the Marine Technology
department at New England Tech has contracted with Volvo Penta
of the Americas to provide instructor services for their certification
courses. Ted Chamberlin, an instructor for the Marine Technology
department, is teaching the courses, held at the college's
Access Road campus. Volvo Penta provides all the equipment,
curriculum, special tools, and training for NEIT instructors.
Ted attended training in Gothernburg, Sweden and at the Volvo
Penta of the America's headquarters in Chesapeake, Virginia
to become a Volvo Penta instructor.

engines and complete power systems for both marine and industrial
applications. Volvo Penta markets, sells, services, and distributes

their current production model engines and stern drives.

Dan
McDermott from Carlin Combustion Technology addresses heating
students during 'Industry Links Week.'
Industry
links week
On
September 15 - 19, the Heating Department hosted "Industry
Links Week." The week consisted of guest speakers from
local companies and two field trips, one to Heat Transfer
Products in East Freetown, MA and another to Viessmann in
Warwick. Guest speakers included Dan McDermott from Carlin
Combustion Technology, Dave Marcotte from Urell, Inc., and
Ted Whittaker from the RI Department of Labor and Training.
Industry Links Week is held every other quarter to give
students exposure to the variety of career paths available
to graduates. Students have the opportunity to ask questions
and see first hand the types of environments in which they
could be working.
Ron
Como, Department Chair for Heating Technology had this to
say, "The purpose of 'Industry Links Week' is to give
the heating students some insight into new technology. Over
the past several years, we have had excellent presentations
from many of the leading representatives in the industry.
Because it gives them an opportunity to speak directly to
their future customers, a number of manufacturers look forward
to this event. Mr. Ted Whittaker and Mr. Charles Wright,
from the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training,
are regular participants of 'Industry Links Week' and are
always ready to advise our students on licensing requirements."
