Electrical Department Awarded Champlin Foundation Grant
New England Institute of Technology’s Electrical Technology Department has been awarded a $115,000 grant from the Champlin Foundation. The grant money will be utilized to fund the FMS-2000 Flexible Manufacturing System which will allow students to study the different technologies within the field of automation in a practical context. More specifically, electrical students will be studying Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Motor drive systems (variable frequency and servo drivers), industrial sensing, electronic interfaces, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Date Acquisition), Pneumatic and Electro-Pneumatic technologies and industrial communications.
The FMS-2000 system will allow the students at NEIT to see all components of automation function as a complete system and allow the student to develop the necessary electrical skills demanded by today’s industrial market.

New Automotive Service Management Technology Program to Begin at NEIT
New England Tech will begin offering a new Bachelor of Science degree program in the 2006 Spring Quarter. The program, entitled Automotive Service Management Technology, offers students who have obtained an Associate in Science degree in Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology or Marine Technology an opportunity to further their education in the transportation fields. This program, offered jointly by the Transportation Technologies Department and the Business Management Technology Department, is designed to provide students with a broad range of management, business, and technical skills applicable to employment in the transportation industries. Through various teaching methodologies students will be exposed to theory and application of customer service skills, management of employees, and system controls.
New England TechÕs Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the associateÕs degree programs in Automotive, Marine, and Collision Repair indicated a need for a Bachelor of Science program in Automotive Service Management. In the spring of 2005, NEIT conducted a survey of area transportation employers, current students and alumni, and the TAC to determine how much interest there was in such a program. Seventy-six percent of the respondents stated that they have difficulty locating qualified candidates for service management positions. NEIT students and alumni also expressed interest in the program.
Graduates of this program will be prepared for entry to mid-level positions in such areas as general service managers, parts managers, warranty administrators, fleet managers, collision repair production managers, and marina and boatyard managers.
Anyone interested in more information about this exciting new program should contact Michael Caruso at the Admissions Office of NEIT at 800-736-7744.
